RIAM Deferred Theory Exam Registration and Process

Important information about  RIAM Theory Exams 2020
 
 
Dear Applicant,

We hope you are staying safe and well at this time. We are contacting you with some important information about your upcoming RIAM Theory Exam, online from 12 midday on the 14th of November.

We want to provide you with some useful information as you continue to prepare for your Exam:
  • All Exams will be held Online (we will supply special provision for special needs candidates)
  • The link for the Exams site will be live from 12 pm (midday), and open until 6 pm-, you will be able to login any time and complete the exam up until 6pm.
 
Exam Requirements
You will need access to;
  • smartphone, tablet, or PC that has good internet access and can take pictures (camera/webcam)
  • Paper and pencils
  • Theory Resource Paper from RIAM (that can be downloaded, or delivered in advance), available from Tuesday 3rd of November. The Exam will be completed by completing a combination of onscreen and written answers (which will be captured in a picture and uploaded)
 
Question Types
As candidates move through the Exam they will answer in two main methods:
  1. Questions that can be answered on the screen (by typing letters/numbers)
  2. Questions that will require writing musical notation on the resource paper, prompted by a question on the screen. A picture/scan of the Theory Resource Paper can be uploaded onto the system.
 
There is no specialised music notation software required for the exam, or additional specialised hardware or tablets.
 
Younger candidates are permitted to seek the help of a parent/guardian in helping them navigate the system and assist in the uploading of answers.

Next Steps
You will be required to supply an email address and candidate name to log in (please note one email per candidate is required. Parents/guardians of under 16-year-olds should use their email address on behalf of the candidates).
 
 
You will be permitted to login in advance to test the system.

Households with several candidates and only one device may stagger the access to the system, no additional devices are required.

Candidates should be registered before next Friday the 30th at 12pm midday;
  • If you are the applicant who has booked on behalf of a candidate please forward this email to your student, or all parents/guardians, and ask them to complete the details on the link below to register.
  • If you are the student or parent/guardian of one, please click on the link and fill out the form yourself.
  • You will need to download and print a Theory Resource Paper in advance of the Exam. If you do not have access to a printer please request for a posted paper when registering.
  • The registered details will be used to access the Online Theory System- please make sure that the email is that for the person sitting the exam, or is the parent/guardian who will be present on the day.
