NEW Junior String Group (Primary Grade - Grade III)

Our new Junior String Group is for string students who have had little or no previous mixed ensemble experience. Students should have completed Primary Grade level or equivalent (RIAM) and have an understanding of finger patterns in D & G major and basic note reading skills. Students participating in JSG should have experience with reading musical notation, be familiar with simple rhythms, key signatures and be able to play comfortably on all four strings. The JSG is open to internal & external students of the school.

The challenges for members are to learn to listen, develop concentration, follow the conductor and play as part of a larger ensemble. Experience in JSG will help the young musician learn the expectations and demands of ensemble playing and prepare for the challenges of the repertoire they will experience when they join the senior Chamber Group or one of our affiliated orchestras. Rehearsals are held weekly. JSG will work towards performances at CSM Christmas and Summer concerts.

NEW Junior & Leaving Certificate Courses - 1-Year Course

There are many students now wishing to take Junior & Leaving Certificate music outside of school hours, enabling them to take an extra subject on in school. Also, many of our students approaching JC & LC already have a strong theoretical background and can cover the syllabus in 1 year in contrast to 2 / 3 years. In consideration of this, we are now offering group classes in preparation for the state exams.
